How to fly in France

In order to have all the tools and links in order to fly in France, here are some links, advices and so on that can ease your future flight

Be aware that the information given is for guidance only and that there may have been updted since the date of publishing.

Airspace

Visibility

Under 3000ft or 1000ft ASFC :
Out of the clouds
1500m visibility or 30s flight

Above or in controled airspace (C, D) :
Clear of the clouds : 1500m lateraly and 1000ft verticaly
Visibility : 5000m under FL100, 8000m above on free airspace

Semi-Circular Cruising Levels

On VFR flights with standard altimeter setting (1013 hPa) the following semi-circular cruising levels shall be used :

Transponder Settings

There is no TMZ in France. What is strongly recommended is to keep mode C always active with the code 7000 for VFR flights. But, anyway, if you are outside controlled airspace, you can fly without transponder.

Above 3000ft ASFC, you must change the altimeter setting from QNH to 1013 considering the semi circular rule here above.
If the area is regulated by a transition altitude, it will be above the transition altitude that you will change that setting.
Under this level you can fly at any altitude you want.

Go to « Notam » and try all the 4 sheets – it gives you informations from the top one :

to the aerodromes notams
to a narrow route from departure to arrival
the low and very low military training zones
to the Sup AIP which gives you detailled information on military exercices or special events. The number of the AIP you could be concerned by is given in the 2 firsts bullets.

Restricted Areas
